Turquoise Bay in Roatán is a scuba diver's paradise! Featuring incredible dive sites (that are only a few minutes boat ride from the resort,) beautiful grounds with horseback riding, scooter rentals and a buffet to die for. It would be hard to ask for more in a dive resort.
But even with all of that Turquoise Bay offers more. From first class beaches to paddle boarding you won't be bored for a minute.
However, if kicking back and relaxing is more your speed there's not shortage of that either. After a long day of diving why not relax with a massage on the beach while drinking coconut milk right from a fresh coconut. There's no place else like it!
Roatán is one of the bay islands off the coast of Honduras. While it is part of Honduras it's culture and history is a rich mixture of Caribbean attitude and Central American style.
Over the course of its five hundred year history Roatán has been home to runaway pirates, fugitive slaves, American filibusters and British colonials. This rich history is reflected in its people who have developed a rich tapestry of culture unlike anywhere else in the Caribbean or Central America.
WHERE IS Roatán?
WHAT ABOUT THE
I don't think anyone can say a bad word about Turquoise Bay Resort. From their lovely private beach, to the top-notch staff and delicious food everything about Turquoise Bay was fantastic.
Imagine waking up in the morning to head down to the beach to enjoy the cool breeze blowing in from the Caribbean while enjoying the sunrise in one of the many hammocks scattered throughout the beach.
In addition to the gorgeous beach the resort offered a myriad of on-and-off-site activities including; horseback riding, ziplining, moped tours of the island and a lot more. Nobody ever wanted for something to do!
Roatán's location means that it sits on the edge of the Great Mayan Reef, the second largest Barrier Reef in the world. Stretching from Southern Mexico to Nicaragua this reef system is the heart of the Caribbean Sea and is home to a wide variety of marine life. This includes everything from pods of dolphins to frog fish!
The dive shop at Turquoise Bay is Subway Watersports, a world-class diving facility if there ever was one. Combining knowledge with a commitment to conservation and genuine good humor they know how to create a fantastic dive experience. And boats are mere steps from the rooms!
WHAT'S A TRIP HIGHLIGHT?
This is of course going to be different for everyone who went on our 2016 and 2017 Turquoise Bay trips. For me, it was the day we went out to Pigeon Cay. That day we took the boats out a little farther than normal and dived some of the more secluded spots around Roatán. After the mornings dives were completed we went to a small wind-swept island called Pigeon Cay that looked straight out of "Treasure Island." Meeting us on the island were staff from the resort who had prepared an amazing lunch of grilled grouper and pork chops. Believe me, there is nothing like sitting with your feet in the Caribbean Sea, with a local beer in your hand and grouper in your belly with nobody but your fellow divers and the crew around for miles.
