The NAUI Divemaster rating is the highest NAUI leadership-level certifaication with the exception of Instructor. The program is designed to train experienced and knowledgeable divers to organize and conduct enjoyable open water dives for certified divers.
Qualifications of Graduates
- An active-status NAUI Divemaster is qualified to organize and conduct dives for certified divers if the diving activities and locale approximate those in which the Divemaster is trained. Additional training, knowledge or experience is necessary for the Divemaster who desires to organize highly specialized activities, such as wreck penetration, cavern or ice dives or enter a new locale.
- An active-status NAUI Divemaster is qualified to organize and conduct NAUI Recognition (such as International Diver) and Experience Programs (such as Stingray Experience) and award appropriate recognition materials to participants.
- An active-status NAUI Divemaster is qualified to assist an active-status NAUI Instructor in diving courses.
- An active-status NAUI Divemaster who completes a NAUI-DAN First Aid Instructor orientation, who has completed all required NAUI-DAN orientation modules and is using the NAUI-DAN training and support materials, may teach the NAUI-DAN First Aid programs.
- An active Status NAUI Divemaster may conduct NAUI Refresher Courses.
- An active status NAUI Divemaster may teach and certify Underwater Hunting and Collecting, Underwater Ecologist, Underwater Imaging and Underwater Archaeology provided they have expertise in the area and get approval from NAUI Training Department.
- If all other prerequisites are met, a current NAUI Divemaster is qualified to enter a NAUI Instructor Training Course (ITC).

NAUI Divemaster Course Overview
Take the next step in your diving career with the NAUI Divemaster Course, the highest leadership-level certification before becoming an Instructor. This program trains experienced divers to organize and conduct open water dives and assist with other NAUI-approved activities.
Course Fee: $1,100
Includes:
- All instruction and confined water fees.
- NAUI Divemaster Candidate Packet Digital NES Activation Codes.
Does not include:
- NAUI annual membership dues/registration ($150 for new Divemasters).
- Admissions to open water training sites.
- Lodging and transportation.
Rescheduling/No-Show Fees
A $400 fee per person applies for cancellations or rescheduling of the course. We will work with you to accommodate scheduling conflicts if you are available for the majority of the course.
Prerequisites
- Age: 18 years old or older
- Medical Approval: Unconditional approval for diving by a licensed physician within the last 12 months.
- Minimum of 60 logged open water scuba dives with a minimum of 30 hours of bottom time.
- Certification/Experience/Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
- Certified as NAUI Open Water scuba diver or equivalent
- NAUI AOW scuba diver or equivalent
- NAUI Rescue scuba diver or equivalent
- NAUI Nitrox scuba diver or equivalent
- NAUI Master scuba diver or equivalent
- DFA PRO or equivalent (*DFA Pro course will be scheduled at LDC prior to the beginning of the Spring Leadership Program for any candidates needing this certification or renewal)
- Equipment: Divemaster must furnish and be responsible for the care and maintenance of their own diving equipment. However, we understand that that may not be feasible.
- Wetsuits and regulators can be rented from LDC at the student's expense, if necessary.
- For this course, LDC require Divemasters to have at least their own BCD and computer.
- Since Advanced Open Water, Rescue, and Master Diver are required pre-requisites for this course, the personal gear required for this course are: primary and backup lights, tank light, throw bag, 10 ft webbing, first aid kit/pocket mask, dive slate, DSMB, finger spool/reel, and compass.
- You can purchase any required gear from LDC at 20% discount.
- You can purchase all gear at the newly renovated Louisville Dive Center retail shop.
Course Structure
- Hybrid Learning: Combines virtual and in-person classroom sessions.
- Confined & Open Water Training: Hands-on skill development in various environments.
- Internship Component: Shadow NAUI professionals during training courses led by Instructor Trainers or Course Directors.
Course Schedule
- Virtual Sessions: Divemasters are required to attend virtual sessions only.
- Internship & Dives: Scheduled sessions for confined and open water training, including presentations and evaluations.
- The Divemaster program includes multiple confined and open water dives, as well as presentations. To enhance the learning experience, the Divemaster course will incorporate an internship component. During this phase, candidates will schedule sessions to complete the required tasks while shadowing NAUI members holding either the Instructor Trainer or Course Director designations.
- A schedule of confined water and open water dates will be provided to Divemaster candidates, allowing them to participate in internship sessions throughout the summer.
Gear
- Divemaster candidates must provide and be responsible for the care and maintenance of their own diving equipment. However, we understand this may not always be feasible.
- For this course, the Louisville Dive Center requires Divemasters to have their own BCD and dive computer.
- Wetsuits and regulators can be rented from LDC at the student's expense, if necessary.
- Since Advanced Open Water, Rescue, Master Diver, and DFA Pro certifications are prerequisites for this course, the following personal gear is required: primary and backup lights, tank light, throw bag, 10 ft webbing, first aid kit/pocket mask, dive slate, DSMB, finger spool/reel, and compass.
