The Scuba Schools International (SSI) Lifeguard course is an entry-level certification designed for pool and confined water lifeguarding only (not waterfront or open water environments). Students are trained in surveillance, rescue skills, emergency response, CPR, first aid, AED and oxygen administration.

This course and facility are not affiliated with the American Red Cross. This is a separate certification program through SSI. If you are specifically seeking Red Cross certification, please do not enroll in this course.

Before registering, it is best practice to check with your intended employer to confirm they accept SSI Lifeguard & React Right (First Aid, AED, CPR, O2) certifications.

Our Lifeguarding course is offered as a combo class that includes First Aid, CPR, and Oxygen (O₂) training. Because these certifications are included as part of the complete course package, we do not prorate or discount the course price for participants who already hold Basic Life Support (BLS), CPR, or another equivalent certification. All participants pay the full course price regardless of previously held certifications.

Training Includes

• 2 days of classroom and in-water training
• Surface rescues and spinal injury management
• Emergency action planning and teamwork
• CPR, first aid, AED, and oxygen administration
• No deep water requirement

Watermanship Evaluation

Candidates must complete:

• Swim 50 yards using a combination of modified freestyle and breaststroke in 1 minute
• Swim 400 yards continuously in 9 minutes or less
• Tread water for 15 minutes, with hands out of the water for at least 5 minutes
• On a single breath, retrieve and move three objects (totaling 15 lbs) across a distance of 50 feet
• Perform a surface dive to at least 10 feet to retrieve an object while attached to a life support buoy

Upon successful completion, students earn all three certifications and are qualified for pool and confined water lifeguarding positions.

Enrollment is limited to 6 students to ensure personalized instruction and adequate hands-on training opportunities for each participant.

Please note that, as a scuba diving facility, some of the e-learning materials have a scuba-focused perspective and terminology. While the content may reference diving environments, the skills and knowledge covered are still applicable to and required for the pool lifeguarding course.
