Introduction to Technical Diving
This course serves as an essential introduction to the rigors and discipline of technical diving, making it an ideal preparatory step for those considering specialized training in areas like cave or decompression diving. Participants will learn about dive planning, physics and physiology, decompression practices, buoyancy control, and side-mount configurations, all aimed at streamlining equipment for maximum efficiency.
Technical diving goes beyond standard recreational limits regarding depth and bottom time, involving accelerated decompression and the use of various gas mixtures. This advanced diving method necessitates additional training, experience, and equipment.
Whether you're a certified open water diver eager to deepen your knowledge, exploring the possibility of technical training, or a certified technical diver seeking a refresher, this course will enhance your skills and confidence for your underwater adventures.
Pre-requisites:
- Minimum age 18, 15 with parental consent
- Minimum certification Open Water Scuba Diver or equivalent. Advanced Open Water, Drysuit, and Nitrox highly recommended
- Proof of 25 logged open water dives
Course Highlights:

TDI Intro to Tech Minimum Requirements:
- Demonstrate effective gear selection, preparation, and buddy gas matching.
- Master S.T.A.R.T, trim, finning techniques, body positioning, and essential diver skills.
- Show mature, sound judgment in dive planning and execution.
Please note: A $300 fee will apply for no-shows or reschedules made within 48 hours of the course.
Students are required to provide their own equipment or rent at the student's expense from the Louisville Dive Center.
Intro to Tech dive gear rental (doubles, backplate/wing, regulators, etc) is $150.
Other required gear include: rescue cutter, dive light, dive knife, finger spool/reel, surface marker buoy, and a wrist slate. An Intro to Tech gear kit can be purchased from the Louisville Dive Center at a discounted rate.
