The NAUI Divemaster rating is the highest NAUI leadership-level certifaication with the exception of Instructor. The program is designed to train experienced and knowledgeable divers to organize and conduct enjoyable open water dives for certified divers.

Qualifications of Graduates

  • An active-status NAUI Divemaster is qualified to organize and conduct dives for certified divers if the diving activities and locale approximate those in which the Divemaster is trained. Additional training, knowledge or experience is necessary for the Divemaster who desires to organize highly specialized activities, such as wreck penetration, cavern or ice dives or enter a new locale.
  • An active-status NAUI Divemaster is qualified to organize and conduct NAUI Recognition (such as International Diver) and Experience Programs (such as Stingray Experience) and award appropriate recognition materials to participants.
  • An active-status NAUI Divemaster is qualified to assist an active-status NAUI Instructor in diving courses.
  • An active-status NAUI Divemaster who completes a NAUI-DAN First Aid Instructor orientation, who has completed all required NAUI-DAN orientation modules and is using the NAUI-DAN training and support materials, may teach the NAUI-DAN First Aid programs.
  • An active Status NAUI Divemaster may conduct NAUI Refresher Courses.
  • An active status NAUI Divemaster may teach and certify Underwater Hunting and Collecting, Underwater Ecologist, Underwater Imaging and Underwater Archaeology provided they have expertise in the area and get approval from NAUI Training Department.
  • If all other prerequisites are met, a current NAUI Divemaster is qualified to enter a NAUI Instructor Training Course (ITC).

Pre-requisites

  • Age: 18 years old or older
  • Good Health: Proof of medical fitness is required. All candidates must submit a DAN Medical Waiver signed by a medical professional, regardless of how the health questionnaire is completed.
  • Experience: Minimum of 60 logged open water scuba dives with a minimum of 30 hours of bottom time in various environments. 
  • Certification/Experience/Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
    • Certified as NAUI Open Water scuba diver or equivalent
    • NAUI AOW scuba diver or equivalent
    • NAUI Rescue scuba diver or equivalent
    • NAUI Nitrox scuba diver or equivalent
    • NAUI Master scuba diver or equivalent
    • DFA (Diving First Aid) or equivalent
  • Divemaster candidates will work with instructors to schedule and complete all skin diving and scuba prerequisites before starting their internship.  

If you need DFA certification or renewal, or any of the prerequisite couress, we'll do our best to schedule this at LDC prior to the start of the Leadership Program.
