The Scuba Schools International (SSI) Lifeguard course is an entry-level certification designed for pool and confined water lifeguarding only (not waterfront or open water environments). Students are trained in surveillance, rescue skills, emergency response, CPR, first aid, and oxygen administration.

CPR/First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications are provided through Divers Alert Network (DAN).

This course and facility are not affiliated with the American Red Cross. This is a separate certification program through SSI and DAN. If you are specifically seeking Red Cross certification, please do not enroll in this course.

Before registering, it is best practice to check with your intended employer to confirm they accept SSI Lifeguard certifications.

Included Certifications

Training Includes

• Three days of classroom and confined water training
• Surface rescues and spinal injury management
• Emergency action planning and teamwork
• CPR, first aid, and oxygen administration
• No deep water requirement

Watermanship Evaluation

Candidates must complete:

• Swim 50 yards using a combination of modified freestyle and breaststroke in 1 minute
• Swim 400 yards continuously in 9 minutes or less
• Tread water for 15 minutes, with hands out of the water for at least 5 minutes
• On a single breath, retrieve and move three objects (totaling 15 lbs) across a distance of 50 feet
• Perform a surface dive to at least 10 feet to retrieve an object while attached to a life support buoy

Upon successful completion, students earn all three certifications and are qualified for pool and confined water lifeguarding positions.
