The Scuba Schools International (SSI) Lifeguard course is a structured, entry-level program designed to train individuals to act as competent and effective lifeguards in pool and confined water environments. The course focuses on water safety, rescue techniques, and emergency response skills essential for supervising aquatic activities.

What You Will Learn

  • Surveillance and Prevention: How to identify risks and respond to potential hazards in and around aquatic facilities.

  • Rescue Techniques: Surface rescue skills, including non-contact and contact rescues, spinal injury management, and escape methods.

  • Emergency Management: Understanding and implementing emergency action plans, including accident reporting and teamwork during rescues.

  • CPR and First Aid: Basic life support skills (can be added to this course for a fee).

  • Communication and Leadership: Techniques for coordinating with other lifeguards and managing swimmer safety.


Training Format

The course combines three academic (theory) sessions with three practical sessions in confined water, ensuring a balanced approach to learning and skill development. With no requirement for deep water work, the focus is entirely on surface and shallow-water rescue scenarios.


Certification Outcome

Upon successful completion, participants earn the SSI Lifeguard certification, demonstrating they are trained to supervise and respond to emergencies in pool and confined water environments.
